23/10/2018 1 Comment Last meeting for 2018Date 28/11/2018 Recent Activity Team met today to discuss further steps of the project development. It seems that there are two streams going at the same time:
Pillow fort can be a movable space and it is relatively easy to recreate it in different spaces at university. Contemplation space is more difficult to move and create a simplistic space. Victoria University got gifted an old ambulance that they use as a prayer spaces. There's been some controversy over this space. Action points from the meeting:
Next meeting: week of the 30th January. Blanket Fort ReflectionOver week 12 (hand-in week) the project team set up a trial of a blanket fort at the back of the Campus Co-Lab space. They set up a feedback board where students could indicate their mood going in and out of the space. The forts existence was advertised by pillow posters going up in two locations on campus and on Campus Co-Lab's and MAWSA's social media pages. Materials were bought from the secondhand shop including an arm chair, sheets and pillows. Each day we changed the dots on the board to see if different day had more engagement
Some of the project team (Jacob, Mark and Daniel) met with Mags and Marie today to reflect on the blanket fort trial and talk about what to do next. The Blanket Fort was a great first prototype and the whole team felt like it proved you could transform peoples moods with spaces. The team was really happy with the trial, but there were questions bought up if this was doing what the contemplation room original purpose intended to do. To reflect on the Blanket Fort the team completed a SWOT analysis:
Strengths
Weaknesses
Opportunities
Threats

22/10/2018 1 Comment Prototype budgeted10/10/18 Project team met today to talk about how what they will need and how they will do the prototype next week during week 12. Mags and Jacob are heading out to the secondhand shop tomorrow morning to pick up sheets, pillows, blankets and throws for the construction of the pillow fort.
Mags, Debbie, Jacob and Marie will set up the prototype on Monday morning along with a board that will collect how people are feeling when they enter vs how they feel when they leave. This prototype will measure how people are effected with a space like a pillow fort and if space can transform peoples moods. 22/10/2018 0 Comments Prototype planned26/09/18 The contemplation project has recently completed surveying students to gather context around their assumptions around their project.
Their online survey had 25 responses and their paper survey had 17. The survey asked how students were, how anxious / calm they felt, what things they do to currently unwind, what they would expect of a space that recharges and energises, their year and study. The traveling board was also put out to gather feedback on expectations and how people currently deal with stress. Today the facilitator meet with Jacob (VCD 3rd year student) and Mark to talk through the survey results and how that could translate into a prototype. Jacob had recently executed a project in collaboration with VUWSA during their event Sex in the Hub. Jacob was involved with setting up a blanket fort which students could go into to listen to one of six headphones which played stories from students of sexual violence. (See images below) Jacob and Mark agreed that we could replicate the blanket fort (without the stories) on the Massey Campus in week 12. This blanket fort is an opportunity to test an option that students are indicating they want in the feedback. NEXT STEPS Jacob will get together a proposal of how the blanket fort could be constructed and any costs involved. Mark will explore if there is any acoustic panelling we can borrow from the music school. Current thinking is that the blanket fort will be set up in the Co-Lab space at the back. There is also have an opportunity to conduct another prototype during exams which contrasts the blanket fort. In the next meeting (10th October) this idea for a prototype will be discusses as well as how we can measure it’s success and what a contrasting prototype could be. 22/10/2018 0 Comments Survey set up30/08/18
22/10/2018 1 Comment Initial meeting16/08/18 Yesterday the facilitator met with the project group for the initial project meeting. The initial meeting was approached slightly differently than usual because of the amount of people attending and because the project was a joint project between two Massey services (Chaplaincy & Student Health and Counselling).
The facilitator prepared an agenda for the meeting that would help bring everyone onto the same page, give a clear context of the idea, establish key elements to the project and give a clear direction of where to from here. From the submission of the project there are a couple of different agenda's coming through. To prevent this from becoming an issue further down the project each person at this meeting was asked to introduce themselves, say why they are here, and say one aspiration they have for the project. Actions established The team established to meet up fortnightly and next meeting they would have the beginnings of a survey to put out to students, along with some research into where their idea is happening at and outside of Massey. |
About the projectTo provide a generous and caring community space for all Massey students. This space will focus on giving the individual a chance to become silent, to be mindful and to have a space to relax purposefully. This will also aim to be an educational space focusing on emotional regulation, managing stress and spiritual enlightenment.
