22/10/2018 0 Comments Prototype planned26/09/18 The contemplation project has recently completed surveying students to gather context around their assumptions around their project.
Their online survey had 25 responses and their paper survey had 17. The survey asked how students were, how anxious / calm they felt, what things they do to currently unwind, what they would expect of a space that recharges and energises, their year and study. The traveling board was also put out to gather feedback on expectations and how people currently deal with stress. Today the facilitator meet with Jacob (VCD 3rd year student) and Mark to talk through the survey results and how that could translate into a prototype. Jacob had recently executed a project in collaboration with VUWSA during their event Sex in the Hub. Jacob was involved with setting up a blanket fort which students could go into to listen to one of six headphones which played stories from students of sexual violence. (See images below) Jacob and Mark agreed that we could replicate the blanket fort (without the stories) on the Massey Campus in week 12. This blanket fort is an opportunity to test an option that students are indicating they want in the feedback. NEXT STEPS Jacob will get together a proposal of how the blanket fort could be constructed and any costs involved. Mark will explore if there is any acoustic panelling we can borrow from the music school. Current thinking is that the blanket fort will be set up in the Co-Lab space at the back. There is also have an opportunity to conduct another prototype during exams which contrasts the blanket fort. In the next meeting (10th October) this idea for a prototype will be discusses as well as how we can measure it’s success and what a contrasting prototype could be.

About the projectTo provide a generous and caring community space for all Massey students. This space will focus on giving the individual a chance to become silent, to be mindful and to have a space to relax purposefully. This will also aim to be an educational space focusing on emotional regulation, managing stress and spiritual enlightenment.
