Hia Kai is exploring a way to provide students with a cheap, convenient and healthy way to feed themselves.
22/5/2017 1 Comment Hia Kai comes to Campus Co-LabKate the Student Advocate at MAWSA (Massey at Wellington Students' Association) has come to Campus Co-Lab to help create a service similar to My Food Bag but tailored towards students.
Naming it Hia Kai, meaning hungry in Māori, it already comes with a catchy and jazzy name. This name which won over Pouaka Kai, meaning 'food box.' The project comes with the goals to provide students with a cheap, convenient and healthy way to feed themselves. An initial idea is that students would purchase a weekly box which would include the ingredients and recipes to make a weeks worth of low budget but very nutritious meals. For example; one week might include a mince and tomato based mixture that could be made in bulk then modified to make several different meals - spaghetti bolognese, nachos, spiced beef empanadas and cottage pie. Kate has noticed that many students who are flatting for the first time don't have much experience cooking. Hia Kai would provide cheap, convenient and healthy way for students to eat and help them learn to cook at the same time. The project comes with the moto that a well fed students are more likely to succeed academically. The outcome would assist students to budget and save them time.
